KATHMANDU: The foreign distribution rights of the upcoming Nepali film ‘Pension Patta’, directed and led by veteran actor Mao Tse Gurung, have begun selling even before any promotional materials have been released.
The film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on Bhadra 26 (coinciding with Haritalika Teej), has already secured distribution deals in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong at reportedly premium prices.
The UK rights have been acquired by Sapana Entertainment Limited, while the Hong Kong rights have been purchased by Main Dragon Limited.
Director Gurung expressed excitement over the early international demand, noting that the strong interest even before promotional rollout reflects growing anticipation for the project.
He also mentioned that negotiations for distribution rights in other countries are ongoing and expected to be finalized soon.
Produced under Mao Tse Gurung Films, the movie also features significant investment from Gurung himself, who is widely known as the “godfather” figure in the Gurung cinema circle. The story has been written by the director, and the film aims to portray the transformation of a greedy young man into a generous individual, rather than just a typical ex-Gurkha or pensioner-themed narrative.
The film boasts a large ensemble cast including Dayahang Rai, Sunil Thapa, Buddhi Tamang, Wilson Bikram Rai, Gaumaya Gurung, and several other prominent and emerging artists. Notably, actors Bishwas and Maya make their debut in Nepali cinema through this film.
International production contributions include investors from the UK and Hong Kong, with the production managed by DB Gurung. Cinematography is handled by Sushan Prajapati, casting direction by Suraj Tamang, and music composed by Manoj Thapa Magar, Shiva Baraili, and Surung Gurung.
The film is currently in post-production, with editing underway by Kiear Coich.
It will be distributed nationwide by RR Films, led by Rohit Kattel and Ratna Shrestha.
