NC MP challenges RSP lawmaker to parliament debate on constitution

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Sushila Theeng has challenged Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Sobita Gautam to engage in a parliamentary debate on the Constitution.
Speaking at the House of Representatives session on Friday, Theeng responded to Gautam’s recent remarks at a Chitwan event, where Gautam had criticized lawmakers lacking constitutional knowledge and called them arrogant.
Thing emphasized that issues should be addressed within Parliament, not outside, arguing that discussions and debates are the proper forum to test and measure lawmakers’ understanding.
“Who gave her the right to insult parliamentarians outside the House?” Thing asked, directly addressing Gautam. She added, “The Constitution does not allow bypassing parliamentary procedures. Let’s debate here, discuss here, and evaluate each other’s knowledge properly. Speaking disrespectfully outside the House to demean MPs is unacceptable.”
She also criticized lawmakers who skip sessions but still collect allowances, saying they have no moral ground to lecture others.
