Kangana’s ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ opens poorly, deepens box office slump
Early estimates suggest that Sunday’s earnings may touch around INR 1 crore.
KATHMANDU: Once celebrated as one of Bollywood’s most reliable box office performers, actress Kangana Ranaut was often dubbed the industry’s “hit machine” during her peak years.
Films like Tanu Weds Manu, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and Krrish 3 not only earned commercial success but also significantly boosted her demand and remuneration in the industry.
However, the trajectory of her career has shifted sharply in recent years. Over the past 11 years, Kangana has reportedly not delivered a single major hit, with around 10 consecutive films failing to perform at the box office.
Her latest release, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, now appears to be heading in a similar direction.
Released last Friday, the film has registered a modest start at the box office. It earned approximately INR 2.45 crore gross over its first two days, opening with around INR 1 crore on day one and collecting an estimated INR 1.45 crore on day two.
Early estimates suggest that Sunday’s earnings may touch around INR 1 crore, but industry analysts predict a sharp decline from Monday onward, with collections likely slipping into the lakhs.
The film has already been marked as Kangana’s weakest opening to date. Her previous lowest opener was Tejas (2023), which had collected around INR 1.25 crore on its first day.
With a reported production budget of around INR 60 crore, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata is now being described by trade observers as a major box office setback.
The underwhelming performance has once again sparked discussions in Bollywood circles about Kangana Ranaut’s fading box office pull, with analysts suggesting that her theatrical dominance may have significantly waned compared to her earlier peak years.
