KATHMANDU: Film producer, director, and writer Krishna Chapagain has passed away due to a heart attack while undergoing treatment in Boston, United States.
He died on Wednesday morning at the Cambridge Health Alliance Everett Hospital, where he had been admitted three days earlier after his health condition worsened.
He was receiving intensive care in the ICU.
Chapagain had been living in the United States with his family for a long time.
He was a well-known figure in Nepali cinema, having directed several popular films including “Ek Nazar,” “Didibhai,” “Chattan,” “Ijjatdar,” “Diwanapan,” “Nikhil Dai,” and “Mahan.”
He also wrote most of these films himself, establishing a strong identity as both a writer and director.
His last directed film was “Dushmani,” which was released in 2013.
While in Nepal, Chapagain also operated the “Chapagain Shooting Studio” in Jorpati, Kathmandu.
The studio played a significant role in supporting film and television production at the time.
He had reportedly been planning to return to Nepal in October (Ashoj) to resume filmmaking activities.
However, his sudden demise has left that plan unfulfilled.
