KATHMANDU: A tragic accident on the set of Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film “Love and War” has claimed the life of a 42-year-old worker.
The incident took place on the morning of June 17, 2026, at Royal Pump Studio in Goregaon, Mumbai, during the construction of a film set.
The deceased has been identified as Chandradharsingh Yadav, a carpenter by profession and a member of the Film Studio Sets & Allied Mazdoor Union (FSSAMU).
Reports say a short circuit on the set caused a severe electric shock, critically injuring Yadav. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, Bhansali Productions announced an ex gratia compensation of INR 40 lakh to the bereaved family.
However, FSSAMU president B.N. Tiwari, as reported by Indian media, has urged that the compensation be increased to INR 50 lakh, noting that the deceased’s children are still very young.
The federation has also appealed to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the production team to cover the educational expenses of Yadav’s children and to consider providing employment to his wife within the production house.
Labour unions have called for stricter safety protocols, regulated working hours, and stronger enforcement of workplace safety measures across the film industry.
