‘Chature’ fame Khem Sharma no more

KATHMANDU: Veteran comedian and actor Khem Sharma has passed away in the United States after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Actor Saroj Khanal shared the news of his demise through social media.
Sharma had been living with his family in the U.S. state of Maryland for the past two decades and had been suffering from cancer in recent years.
Widely recognized for his iconic character “Chature,” Sharma began his artistic journey on the stage in the 1980s and went on to appear in numerous television dramas, telefilms, music videos, and feature films.
His performances earned him a special place in Nepal’s comedy scene.
According to fellow comedian Taiyab Shah, Sharma regarded acting as his life’s calling and had moved to the United States primarily for family and financial reasons.
His on-screen partnership with Shivahari Sharma, popularly known as “Mukha Hanujasto,” was once among the most celebrated comedy duos in Nepal.
A native of Chitwan, Sharma gained widespread popularity through the television series “Chatureko Daupech.” He was also acclaimed for his role in the tele-serial “Bina Chihan Ko Mrityu”, produced with support from the French Cultural Center in Kathmandu.
Over the years, Sharma became a familiar face in Nepal’s traditional Gaijatra comedy performances, sharing the stage with prominent comedians including Shailendra Simkhada, Shivahari Poudel, Taiyab Shah, and Uttam KC.
