KATHMANDU: Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket is set to return for its much-anticipated second edition, with matches scheduled under floodlights at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur from Mangsir 1 (Nov 17).
All eight franchise teams have accelerated their preparations as the tournament approaches.
Last season’s finalists Janakpur Bolts and Sudurpaschim Royals had delivered standout performances, with Janakpur clinching the title after defeating Sudurpaschim in the final.
The Royals, who narrowly missed the championship then, are entering this edition with the clear objective of securing the trophy this time.
Under the leadership of former national team head coach Jagat Tamata, Sudurpaschim Royals are currently training at the Mulpani Cricket Ground.
Coach Tamata shared that both domestic and foreign players have been preparing diligently. He acknowledged that while the tournament is highly competitive with all teams strengthened, playing under floodlights may pose challenges for many domestic players. However, he expressed confidence that good preparation will help overcome those hurdles.
Captain Dipendra Singh Airee joined the squad recently after competing in international tournaments.
The team features experienced names like wicketkeeper-batter Binod Bhandari, Arif Sheikh, Avinash Bohora, Hemant Dhami, Ishan Pandey, Naren Saud, and Tek Rawat. The Royals have further reinforced their lineup by signing in-form all-rounder Harmit Singh.
In overseas recruitment, the team looks stronger than ever with the inclusion of Scott Kuggeleijn, Chris Lynn, and Josh Brown, adding depth and firepower.

Coach Tamata believes the team is well-balanced and capable of delivering consistent performances.
He emphasized that team bonding will be key, given the relatively short preparation window.
The franchise has also maintained its identity by including a majority of players from the Sudurpaschim region, aligning with the management’s long-term vision of developing cricket in the Far West (Sudurpaschim).
Meanwhile, the franchise concluded a two-day trophy tour across various locations in Sudurpaschim, igniting local excitement ahead of the tournament.
With balanced squad composition, renewed motivation, and strong regional support, Sudurpaschim Royals enter NPL Season 2 aiming to turn last year’s heartbreak into championship success.
