KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has advised Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) cadres not to elevate their leaders to a god-like status, stressing the importance of internal questioning and accountability within political parties.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of RSP’s first general convention today, Thapa emphasized that party members must not hesitate to question their own leadership when necessary.

“We made the mistake of turning our leaders into gods and fathers. You should not repeat it,” he said. “You must have the courage to question even your own leaders when they are wrong. We were late to realize this and have already paid the price.”

Thapa further reflected on his own party’s shortcomings, saying political organizations should not become “a party of slaves and dead silence,” but rather a space where constructive criticism is encouraged, even against one’s own leadership.
