Gyawali calls for unity to protect democracy & national interest
Warning against growing tendencies that undermine democracy or erode trust in institutions, he called for strengthening the democratic system rather than weakening it.
KATHMANDU: Senior CPN-UML leader Pradeep Gyawali has stressed that no political party, leader, or force can remain secure if the nation itself becomes weak, urging all political actors to remain vigilant on issues of national interest, democracy, and public welfare.
Addressing the first national convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Gyawali invoked the Nepali proverb “save seeds during famine and save life during chaos,” highlighting the need to protect the country’s foundational strength, democratic system, and national unity during challenging times.
He emphasized the importance of a clear, balanced, and nationally aligned foreign policy, calling on all political forces to remain sensitive toward safeguarding sovereignty and national interests.
Gyawali also urged serious attention to citizens’ livelihoods, economic conditions, employment opportunities, and overall living standards, saying these issues must remain at the center of political priorities.
Warning against growing tendencies that undermine democracy or erode trust in institutions, he called for strengthening the democratic system rather than weakening it.
“The journey is toward strengthening democracy, and we must remain alert against any forces that attempt to weaken it,” he said.
He further noted that while gaining public trust is a major achievement, transforming that trust into tangible results is an even greater challenge, adding that all political parties share a collective responsibility to protect democracy and work toward national prosperity.
