KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Balen Shah delivered an informal yet sharp address at the party’s first national convention, calling for fast-paced governance and strict action against corruption.

Opening his speech with “I say I won’t speak, but the moment has come,” Shah responded to suggestions that government should balance both acceleration and braking. He compared governance to a vehicle, saying that while local roads may require braking, the current government is like an “express vehicle.”

“Government is like a vehicle. Many say it needs brakes too. That may be true for local roads, but our party is not local—it is an express vehicle. Brakes are needed only when the destination is reached, not before. This is not uncontrolled; it is directed,” he said.

Shah further stated that his administration will not spare anyone involved in corruption or misuse of public funds, promising strict legal action wherever wrongdoing is found.

“We are a development-oriented and action-driven party. We move forward. We do not waste time on unnecessary disputes. But if there has been corruption or misuse of public money in the past, we will investigate and take action,” he said.

He also emphasized cooperation with constitutional bodies, saying the government is ready to work closely with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) for as long as needed.

“We will not go outside the rules. We will not break the law. We may appear uncontrolled in behavior, but everything is under control,” Shah added.
