KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah has clarified that Nepal did not seek British mediation in the ongoing border dispute with India over Kalapani and Lipulekh.

He said the reference was only about obtaining historical evidence from British-era records.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) convention, Shah expressed surprise over objections raised regarding his remarks on the border issue and urged people not to question his commitment to national sovereignty.

“We did not ask Britain to act as a mediator. We only said we will bring historical proof from the British rule regarding Kalapani and Lipulekh. We have evidence, and we will present it,” Shah said. “We will resolve the issue through direct dialogue with our neighbouring country. There should be no doubt about this. My nationalism should not be questioned,” he added.
