KATHMANDU: Football stakeholders in Nepal staged a protest on Thursday morning against ongoing mismanagement, league suspensions, financial opacity, and lack of accountability within the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). The demonstration took place at the ANFA headquarters, lasting for about an hour.
Protesters carried placards with messages such as “Consultancy, not action – World Cup comes in four years, when will the A-Division?”, “No game, no frames – ANFA to blame”, “Run domestic leagues – Save Football”, and “Frustrating ANFA: Disappointing Nepali Football”, calling for immediate reforms.
The protest highlights long-standing issues within ANFA, including leadership disputes and financial transparency concerns.
Recently, at ANFA’s general assembly held in Dhulikhel, several clubs accused Chair Pankaj Bikram Nembang of financial irregularities.
ANFA claims to have spent Rs 1.56 billion on football activities in 2082 BS, but the detailed accounts have not been made public, fueling dissatisfaction among clubs.
In addition to governance issues, disputes over players’ salaries and facilities have also surfaced. Some clubs reportedly delayed player payments during the previous season, affecting the morale of young athletes, according to football analysts.
The protest reflects growing frustration among stakeholders who demand immediate action to restore transparency, accountability, and proper management in Nepali football.
