KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has stressed the importance of ending the trend where issues receive attention only after street protests.

Speaking at Singha Durbar on Thursday while receiving bamboo-crafted materials from Tirtharaj Bhattarai, Mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, Khotang, Speaker Ghimire stated that it is necessary to create a system where grievances are addressed without forcing citizens to resort to street demonstrations.

He noted that if demands are impractical, irrelevant, or unjust, authorities must be able to clearly explain that at the time.

However, he also acknowledged that going to the streets is not unconstitutional if all other avenues for addressing concerns have failed.

Regarding the promotion of bamboo products, Speaker Ghimire assured that the House of Representatives is always ready to take the initiative to pass any necessary laws if they are stalled in Parliament.

He highlighted the significant value and multi-purpose utility of bamboo as a plant, emphasizing its potential use in various sectors.
