RSP demands 11-meter road access near Bhaisepati Minister quarters (video)

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has demanded that the ongoing construction of ministerial quarters in the Saibu Housing area of Bhaisepati, Lalitpur, ensure an 11-meter-wide road access on the western side of the site.
Speaking at Thursday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, RSP lawmaker Dr. Toshima Karki criticized the government for attempting to proceed forcefully despite long-standing protests by local residents.
She accused the government of acting in an authoritarian manner, stating, “This government is trying to run the state in an oppressive style.”
Dr. Karki pointed out that while the eastern, northern, and southern sides have 11-meter access roads, the western side continues to face obstruction. “Yesterday, the government deployed 200 armed police personnel and tried to build a boundary wall on the narrow road, ignoring local concerns,” she said. “The ministerial quarters are built on land acquired from the public. Why does it need an oversized courtyard now? Leaving a small portion of land for road access won’t shrink the quarters—but it will deny the people their right to a road.”
She further claimed that the government’s actions, which go against public aspirations, pose a threat to the democratic system.
Despite nearly two months of protests, she said the government is running Parliament like a puppet show, ignoring the voices of its citizens.
