KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that the Sherpa community has played a remarkable role in enhancing the prestige of Nepal and Nepalis on the global stage.

Speaking at a special ceremony organized by the Nepal Sherpa Association at Sheetal Niwas on the occasion of the 2153rd Gyalpo Lhosar (Sherpa New Year), the President lauded the Sherpa community for their honesty, hard work, and deep respect for nature.

“The Sherpa community, which has earned global recognition in tourism and mountaineering, is known for its integrity, diligence, and love for nature. Originating from Nepal’s Himalayan region, the Sherpas have spread across the world over centuries and have significantly contributed not only to the pride of their own community but also to the dignity and reputation of Nepal and Nepalis internationally,” President Paudel said.

Highlighting Nepal’s rich geographical and cultural diversity—from the Himalayas to the hills and plains—the President described the Sherpa community as one of the country’s indigenous peoples with distinct traditions, culture, civilization, and identity.

He emphasized that the Sherpas have made a meaningful contribution to strengthening Nepal’s national pride and image.

“Our true national identity lies in our diverse ethnic communities, languages, cultures, lifestyles, traditions, and festivals,” he said, adding that such cultural celebrations foster mutual harmony, unity, friendship, and fraternity. Preserving Nepal’s unique identity while reinforcing national unity, he noted, is a shared responsibility of all citizens.

President Paudel further stated that good governance and prosperity are essential foundations for peace, stability, and stronger national unity in the country.

Calling on citizens to uphold democratic values, he urged everyone to help ensure the success of the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, describing elections as the most appropriate democratic means to reflect the people’s will.
