KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah has extended congratulations and expressed deep respect to legendary mountaineers Kami Rita Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa after their record-breaking ascents of Mount Everest.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister said their achievements have further strengthened Nepal’s global image, making its mountain tourism more credible, prestigious, and attractive to the international community.
Kami Rita Sherpa reached the summit of Mount Everest at 10:12 AM on Sunday, completing his 32nd successful ascent and once again extending his own world record for the most climbs of the world’s highest peak.
The Prime Minister described Everest as more than a geographical height, calling it a symbol of Nepal’s identity, courage, endurance, and Himalayan heritage.
In another landmark achievement, Lhakpa Sherpa—often known as the “Mountain Queen”—summited Everest at 9:30 AM, marking her 11th successful ascent. With this feat, she set a new world record for the most Everest climbs by a female mountaineer.
Kami Rita Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa have been widely praised for their extraordinary endurance, discipline, and dedication to high-altitude climbing.
“Their success is possible only through relentless courage, strict self-discipline, and unwavering commitment,” Prime Minister Shah said, adding that the moment is a source of national pride shared by all Nepalis.
He also highlighted the historic contribution of the Sherpa community in Nepal’s mountaineering legacy, noting that their knowledge, bravery, and service have been essential in guiding climbers safely to Himalayan summits.
