KATHMANDU: Mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has once again rewritten climbing history after successfully summiting Mount Everest for a record 32nd time, extending his own global record for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak.

The 56-year-old from Thame in Solukhumbu reached the 8,848.86-meter summit at 10:12 a.m. on Sunday, according to Seven Summit Treks, the expedition company facilitating his climb.

The achievement further solidifies his status as one of the most accomplished high-altitude climbers in history.

Kami Rita first climbed Everest in 1994 and has since returned almost every climbing season, guiding international expeditions and consistently pushing the limits of endurance in the death zone.

“Mr. Kami Rita Sherpa is not only a national mountaineering hero of Nepal but a living legend of Everest recognized worldwide,” Seven Summit Treks said in a statement. “His courage, experience, and consistency continue to inspire new generations every year.”

The company also expressed hope for his safe descent back to base camp and a warm welcome in Kathmandu, where he is widely celebrated as a national icon of Himalayan climbing excellence.
