Pedestrian assault: 7-day remand granted

KATHMANDU: A car driver seen assaulting a pedestrian in Kathmandu has been arrested following the viral spread of the incident on social media.
The video, showing the driver attacking a person at Narayan Gopal Chowk, sparked widespread criticism online, prompting police action.
Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Chief, SSP Nawaraj Adhikari, confirmed that the accused, 42-year-old Paras Bam of Budhanilkantha Municipality-3, has been taken into custody.
He was handed over to the Kathmandu District Police Range for further investigation.
The video shows Bam stepping out of his jeep (Ba 3 Cha 1103) and physically assaulting a pedestrian.
According to Kathmandu Police spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Bam was presented before the Kathmandu District Court and remanded to judicial custody for seven days.
Police have condemned the act and urged the public to remain calm on the roads, emphasizing that violence and road rage will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
