KATHMANDU: French forward Ousmane Dembele has been crowned the winner of this year’s prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

The honor was presented at a special ceremony held in Paris, marking the highest individual accolade in world football.

Dembélé’s stellar performances inspired Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title last season.

His decisive contributions in attack helped the French giants secure a historic 5-0 victory over Italian powerhouse Inter Milan in the final.

Beyond the Champions League, PSG also dominated domestically, lifting both the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France trophies.

The 28-year-old becomes the sixth French player to claim the Ballon d’Or, adding his name to an elite list of football greats.

Having previously played for Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona, Dembele was also a member of France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning squad.

In the race for the award, Dembélé outshone Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who finished in second place.

On the women’s side, Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmatí cemented her dominance by winning the Ballon d’Or Feminin for the third consecutive year, further solidifying her reign at the top of women’s football.
