Opposition lawmaker urges PM Oli to defend Nepal’s borders on China visit
Sah emphasized that Nepal’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be upheld and urged the Prime Minister to adopt a firm position to ensure that major powers like China and India cannot encroach on the nation’s land.
KATHMANDU: National Assembly lawmaker Madankumari Sah Garima of the opposition CPN (Unified Socialist) has advised Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to take a clear stance on Nepal’s territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura ahead of his upcoming visit to China.
Speaking during a special session of the National Assembly on Friday, Sah emphasized that Nepal’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be upheld and urged the Prime Minister to adopt a firm position to ensure that major powers like China and India cannot encroach on the nation’s land.
Sah also expressed dissatisfaction that Prime Minister Oli had not consulted all political parties for a national consensus before the visit, suggesting that a cross-party meeting should have been held to present a united political front on matters of national interest.
Despite her concerns, Sah wished PM Oli a successful official visit to China, noting that such a trip would have been more appropriate if it conveyed the message of Nepalese political unity in safeguarding the country’s national interests.
