KATHMANDU: With just 16 days remaining until voting for the House of Representatives, only 31 political parties have submitted their election manifestos to the Election Commission, even though 67 parties had registered to contest the direct elections.

Assistant Spokesperson of the Election Commission, Kul Bahadur GC, said major parties, including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, have not yet submitted their manifestos.

Currently, 31 parties have submitted while 37 have not.

Parties such as the CPN (UML), Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and Janata Samajbadi Party had already made their manifestos public and submitted them to the commission.

The Election Commission had instructed all parties to release and submit their election manifestos ahead of the campaign schedule. However, the deadline has passed, and several parties are yet to comply.

CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, and Rastriya Swatantra Party have not publicly released their manifestos.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party, however, has submitted a partial commitment document. Both UML and Congress are reportedly preparing to announce their manifestos on Wednesday.

The Election Commission had directed all parties to release and submit their manifestos by Feb 15.

CPN-UML is finalizing its document under the chairmanship of KP Sharma Oli, while the Nepali Congress is preparing theirs under the leadership of President Gagan Kumar Thapa.
