KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh emphasized the deep-rooted political and cultural ties between Nepal and India during a program held in Kathmandu on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Singh highlighted that the Nepal-India relationship is not only bound by cultural similarities but also by significant political connections.

He pointed out that several founding leaders of the Nepali Congress, including B.P. Koirala, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, and Ganesh Man Singh, had to seek refuge in India during Nepal’s democratic movements, which reflects the historical political bond between the two nations.

“The close ties between Nepal and India extend beyond cultural commonalities. Our political histories are intertwined as well,” Singh stated.

He further noted that the shared religious traditions have deepened the bilateral relationship. With both countries having a Hindu-majority population and strong Buddhist heritage, Singh said, “The common spiritual and religious values have strengthened the bond between our peoples.”

He also acknowledged the significant role of Indian cities like Varanasi (Banaras) in enhancing educational cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the field of traditional and religious studies.

Deputy Prime Minister Singh reiterated the importance of continued collaboration and mutual support to further deepen the longstanding Nepal-India relationship across multiple sectors, including politics, religion, education, and culture.
