Nepal, China sign four MoUs to boost development cooperation
During the bilateral meeting, both sides discussed the strengthening of Nepal-China relations.
KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel met with a delegation led by Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of China’s China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), at the Ministry of Finance today.
During the bilateral meeting, both sides discussed the strengthening of Nepal-China relations, ongoing development partnerships, and upcoming projects supported by China, according to the Finance Ministry’s secretariat.
In conjunction with the talks, four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to further cooperation in critical sectors.
One of the MoUs focuses on establishing a bone marrow transplant unit at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan.
Another pertains to conducting a feasibility study for expanding the Civil Service Hospital.
These agreements were signed by Nepal’s Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay and CIDCA Chair Chen Xiaodong.
Additionally, an MoU on human resource development was inked, which will enable over 1,200 Nepali government employees to participate in bilateral and multilateral seminars organized by various Chinese institutions.
Furthermore, a minutes of understanding was signed between Nepal Electricity Authority’s Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya and CIDCA Chair for conducting a feasibility study on the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung cross-border power transmission line.
The Chinese delegation also pledged support for reconstructing physical infrastructure damaged by recent floods in Rasuwa district. Chair Chen assured expediting customs procedures and providing necessary assistance for swift reconstruction.
Finance Minister Paudel expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for their prompt attention and commitment to post-disaster reconstruction, emphasizing that rebuilding is a top priority for Nepal.
“Rasuwagadhi border is vital not only for import-export activities but also for revenue generation. Therefore, we will expedite reconstruction efforts,” Minister Paudel stated.
