KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai, coordinator of the “Save Nation, Nationality, and Religion” campaign and also a medical professional, has been granted at least four days of police custody.

Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer, Ishwar Raj Paudel, approved the detention to allow further investigation.

Prasai, who also serves as the coordinator of the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Grand Campaign,” and also a medical professional, was taken into custody by police on Monday evening at his Bhaktapur residence.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range stated that Prasai is under investigation for alleged offenses affecting public peace.

This is not Prasai’s first encounter with law enforcement.

He was previously detained on 6 Feb 2026 from Chalnakhel in Dakshinkali Municipality and released on bail two days later.

He was also arrested in Pokhara on 19 Jan 2026.

Authorities said Prasai’s latest arrest followed a letter from the Election Commission to the District Police Office, requesting an investigation into alleged breaches of the election code of conduct and concerns over public security.

Police claim he made statements that could potentially disrupt the election process.
