KATHMANDU: Kylian Mbappe scored twice from the penalty spot as Real Madrid defeated Levante 4-1, consolidating their position at the top of La Liga.

Vinicius Junior opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a brilliant strike, before Argentine youngster Franco Mastantuono netted his first goal for Real in the 38th minute, assisted by Junior.

Levante’s Etta Eyoong pulled one back in the 54th minute, giving hope of a comeback.

However, Mbappee’s quick double penalty in the 64th and 66th minutes sealed the victory, taking his personal tally to seven goals this season.

Real coach Xabi Alonso became the second manager in the club’s history to win six consecutive games at the start of a season.

A win against Atletico Madrid in the upcoming Madrid derby on Saturday would see him equal the record of seven opening victories set by Vanderlei Luxemburgo in 2005.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Villarreal beat Sevilla 2-1, Espanyol drew 2-2 with Valencia, and Athletic Club and Girona played out a 1-1 stalemate.
