Man killed while protecting mother
Police said the incident occurred following a heated family argument at their residence.
KATHMANDU: An incident stemming from a family dispute has claimed a life in Udayapur, eastern Nepal.
A 30-year-old man was killed after being attacked by his elder brother during a domestic altercation in Triyuga Municipality–1 on Friday night.
According to the District Police Office, Udayapur, the deceased has been identified as Dharmaraj Rai, while the accused is his 43-year-old elder brother Yuvraj Rai.
Police said the incident occurred following a heated family argument at their residence.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the dispute escalated after Yuvraj allegedly assaulted their elderly mother.
When Dharmaraj intervened in an attempt to protect her, the argument intensified.
In a fit of rage, the accused reportedly attacked his younger brother with a sharp weapon kept inside the house.
Dharmaraj sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the District Hospital, Udayapur.
However, due to excessive blood loss, doctors declared him dead at around 2:00 am during treatment.
Following the incident, the accused fled the scene and remains at large. Police have completed the initial legal procedures, kept the body for post-mortem examination, and intensified efforts to locate and arrest the suspect.
The incident has left the Rai family devastated, with one son dead and the other facing charges of murder.
Police say further investigation into the case is ongoing.
