KATHMANDU: A young man who assault a police officer in the Pashupatinath area has been arrested.

Kathmandu Police have arrested a young man for physically assaulting a police officer in the Pashupatinath Temple area during the Maha Shivaratri festival.

A video showing the man attacking the on-duty officer went viral on social media, drawing widespread public attention and criticism. Following the circulation of the footage, the Kathmandu Police Range had issued a public notice seeking information about the suspect.

According to SSP Ramesh Thapa, Chief of Kathmandu Police Range, the accused has now been taken into custody. The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Rijan Shrestha, a permanent resident of Thulodamar, Makwanpur, who was currently living in Ward No. 13 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and motive behind the assault. Authorities have also warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found attacking security personnel performing their duties, especially during major religious events.
