KATHMANDU: Senior Nepali Congress leader and Morang-6 candidate, Shekhar Koirala, has claimed personal initiative in the construction of the Science Building at Mahendra Morang Campus, stating that he secured the Rs 50 million budget that made the project possible.

Addressing a campaign program in Biratnagar-12, Koirala said, “Have you seen the separate science campus within Morang College? I initiated the plan and brought in the Rs 50 million budget to make it happen.”

Highlighting his ongoing commitment to improving educational infrastructure, Koirala emphasized that more work remains to be done. “Morang College is not what it used to be when I studied here. Development must keep pace with time,” he said. He added that enhancing educational quality requires expanded infrastructure, laboratories, and resources.

Koirala appealed to voters to support Nepali Congress in the upcoming elections, stating that continuity in development efforts would be possible only with public backing.

Flood mitigation is another key agenda he underscored. Pointing to recurring problems caused by the Kesaliya River during the monsoon, Koirala promised to make Biratnagar-12 flood-free by constructing stronger embankments. “The Kesaliya River has caused suffering to residents every year. My clear plan is to make Viratnagar flood-free with robust embankments,” he said.

He stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved through coordination among local, provincial, and federal governments. Noting the strategic importance of Biratnagar-12, he urged accelerated progress in roads, bridges, drainage systems, and other infrastructure projects.

Reflecting on past development efforts, Koirala pledged more effective implementation in the future. “Development cannot happen alone. Cooperation across ward, municipality, provincial, and federal levels is essential. Political stability and capable leadership are required for this,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress team in Biratnagar-12, led by Chairperson Yadav, has intensified door-to-door campaigns, engaging voters through direct interactions and discussions.

With elections approaching, development, infrastructure, and flood control have emerged as the central issues in Biratnagar-12, while Koirala’s claims of constructing the Science Building and his flood-free city pledge are shaping the local political discourse.
