KATHMANDU: A 32-year-old woman died while her father-in-law sustained serious injuries in a kitchen fire at their home in Sindhuli, Kamalamai Municipality-6, Dhuraphant on Sunday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 4:30 PM in the kitchen of the two-and-a-half-story house owned by 62-year-old Durgaman Bomjan.
The flames spread rapidly, and 32-year-old Sushila Bomjan, Durgaman’s daughter-in-law, was unable to escape and died on the spot, according to Sindhuli District Police.
Durgaman Bomjan was injured in the blaze, suffering burns on his right hand, legs, and back.
He received initial treatment at Sindhuli Hospital and has been referred to a hospital in Kathmandu for further care.
Authorities said his condition is stable and he is able to speak.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was likely caused by careless use of flammable substances such as kerosene or petrol while cooking.
The small kitchen space and stored combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
