KATHMANDU: Nepal marked the 76th National Democracy Day with grandeur, commemorating the historic end of the autocratic Rana regime and the restoration of democracy.

A special ceremony was held at Tundikhel Military Ground in Kathmandu, attended by President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, and other high-ranking state officials.

The event featured a ceremonial salute by the Nepali Army, along with impressive skill displays and marching performances by personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force. Colorful tableaux showcasing the nation’s diverse indigenous cultures were also presented.

Observed every year on Falgun 7 (Feb 19), the day honors the sacrifices and struggle of the Nepali people that led to the establishment of democracy in 2007 BS. The government declared a public holiday nationwide on this occasion.

Across the country, creative programs were organized, celebrating the historic day when Nepal transitioned from autocratic rule to citizen freedom—an unforgettable and proud moment in the nation’s history.
