KATHMANDU: The political parties contesting in the March 5 election to the House of Representatives are required to submit their respective proportional representation (PR) list of candidates by today and tomorrow.

The Election Commission has stated that all preparations have been completed for the schedule for political parties to submit closed lists for the proportional election system.

The parties will have to submit their closed lists for the proportional election system to the Commission today and tomorrow, Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai told RSS.

He said that the closed lists for the proportional election system submitted by the parties on Dec 28 and 29 will be validated from Jan 4.

Following the validation, the Commission will ask the parties to reconcile, if any, of the lists from Jan 5 to 11.

Spokesperson Bhattarai said that the final list will be published on Feb 3.

A total of 100 political parties have registered to participate in the proportional representation (PR) election.

Only political parties that have registered will be allowed to submit their lists of candidates for the closed list today and tomorrow.

18.9 million voters to elect HoR members

A total of 18.9 million three thousand 689 voters are to select the new members of the House of Representatives in the general elections scheduled for the upcoming March 5, 2026.

According to final voter list published by the Election Commission, 9,663,358 men, 9,240,131 women and 200 other voters are eligible to vote in the election.

The final voter list has also been published on the commission’s website.

Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai shared that the commission has decided to publish the final voter list on Saturday in accordance with Section 20 of the Voter List Act, 2073.

In the elections for members of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly held in 2079 BS, the total number of voters was 17.9 million.

As a result, the total number of voters in 2082 BS has increased by 0.915 million compared to 2079 BS.

Likewise, a total of 23,112 polling booths have been determined across the country at 10,967 polling stations for voters whose names are included in the final voter list to vote.

A total of 75 more polling stations have been determined in this election than the total number of polling stations in 2079 BS.
