KATHMANDU: Former Chair of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Ganesh Thapa, filed a defamation case against ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai at the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday.

Thapa had previously lodged a complaint against Rai at the Cyber Bureau.

Thapa stated that the complaint was based on Rai’s comments regarding matters related to him.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Thapa explained that Rai had made false and baseless allegations against him, and as part of legal proceedings, he had also filed a case in the district court.

Thapa, in his press release, accused Rai of attempting to tarnish his reputation by falsely alleging that he had embezzled 17 crore rupees from ANFA and later deposited 8 crore rupees into ANFA’s account after an asset verification investigation.

Thapa emphasized that these allegations were unfounded and part of an attempt to defame him.
