Durga Prasai faces three criminal charges

KATHMANDU: Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has been formally charged with three serious offenses: crimes against the state, organized crime, and attempted murder, according to Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Chief SSP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar.
SSP Kunwar indicated that further charges may be brought against Prasai as the investigation progresses.
Prasai, who had been on the run, was leading a provocative protest in the area of Tinkune.
He was apprehended on Thursday by Indian security personnel in the Indian state of Assam.
His arrest was made in coordination with Nepal Police, and he was handed over to Nepali authorities at the Nepal–India border on Friday.
Preparations are currently underway to extend Prasai’s detention, with legal documentation being finalized to proceed with the attempted murder case as well.
