KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep controversial political activist Durga Prasai in police custody for an additional 12 days to facilitate further investigation.

According to Kathmandu District Police Spokesperson Apilraj Bohora, the court approved the 12-day remand requested by the police on Friday.

Prasai, who had been on the run after allegedly inciting a provocative movement at Tinkune, was apprehended in Assam, India, with the assistance of local Indian authorities.

He was handed over to Nepal Police at the Nepal–India border on Friday following coordinated efforts between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Sources close to the investigation indicate that, in addition to the current charges, police are preparing to press charges related to attempted murder.

Durga Prasai has been a controversial figure in Nepalese politics, often making headlines for his outspoken views and anti-establishment rhetoric.

His recent activities, particularly the Tinkune-based protest, have drawn sharp criticism for inciting unrest and promoting violence.
