KATHMANDU: A Chinese climber led by Xi Junzi has made history by becoming the first expedition team to successfully summit both Mount Everest and Lhotse in a single season.

The team reached the summit of Mount Everest (8,848.86 meters) at 8:56 AM last Thursday (May 14), and later achieved another milestone by climbing Lhotse (8,516 meters) at 11:25 AM today.

With this double success, they became the first recorded team to conquer both peaks consecutively in the same expedition cycle.

The expedition was organized through Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition.

According to operator Utsav Pathak, the team first reached Everest’s summit and then descended to Camp II before launching their Lhotse push, instead of the more common practice of staying at Camp IV for the Lhotse attempt.

Nepali guides Ngima Dorje Sherpa and Dawa Nuru Sherpa were part of the successful team, playing a key role in the expedition’s achievement.

Meanwhile, legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa has set a new world record by summiting Everest for the 32nd time on Sunday morning, further extending his unmatched legacy in high-altitude mountaineering.

In another remarkable feat, female climber Lhakpa Sherpa also completed her 11th successful ascent, breaking her own previous record.
