KATHMANDU: A journalist and media operator has reportedly received threats and abusive messages over the publication of a news report in Dhankuta.

Gopal Baraili, former central member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists and station manager of Radio Dhankuta FM, was allegedly threatened via social media Messenger following the publication of a news story.

According to Baraili, Parsu Karki, a resident of Aandhrung in Mahalaxmi Municipality-7, Dhankuta, sent him abusive and threatening messages after the report was published.

Karki is also said to be an active member of the Nepali Congress in Dhankuta and the chairperson of a school management committee.

In the Messenger exchange, Karki warned Baraili, saying: “You are getting too much attention—be careful and value your life. Don’t go too far; we know you well.”

Baraili had published a report on Thursday via Dhankuta FM’s online portal titled: “Where did Congress leader Siddhartha Thapa disappear after switching off his phone due to fear of the CIAA in a passport printing and procurement case?”
