EC reports 58% votes turnout in Ilam & 50% in Bajhang

KATHMANDU: On Saturday, by-elections were held for the selection of members of the House of Representatives in Ilam-2 and State Assembly in Bajhang-1.

The Election Commission has stated that the voting atmosphere in both areas has been peaceful and enthusiastic.

However, the voter turnout seems to be lower compared to the elections held on 20 November 2022.

According to a statement issued by the Commission on Saturday evening, a 58% voter turnout was recorded in Ilam-2, while Bajhang-1 witnessed a 50% voter turnout for the State Assembly elections.

However, the Commission has mentioned that the details of the voter turnout will be entered into the Commission’s system.

In the by-elections, there were 115,889 voters in Ilam-2 and 61,748 voters in Bajhang-1 State Assembly constituency. In the elections held on 20 November 2022, Ilam-2 had a voter turnout of 59.78% and Bajhang-1 had a voter turnout of 52.98%.

The Commission has informed that in Ilam, the ballot box collection will take place at the Gautam Buddha Hall in Ilam Municipality-7, starting from 11 PM.

However, in Bajhang, ballot box collection will also be conducted by helicopter, and according to the Commission’s assistant spokesperson Ramdatt Pandey, ballot collection by helicopter is scheduled to start at 10 AM on Sunday.

The Commission has suggested that three places in Sainapal Rural Municipality of Bajhang district will have to be brought in by helicopter for ballot box collection.
