Hotel operator held for selling 20-year-old girl to India

KATHMANDU: The police have arrested a hotel owner from Lakhan Park, Ward No. 14, Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan of Dang, on suspicion of transporting and selling a young woman to India.

Topli Sarki, 39, and Bimusa Sarki, 52, of Ward 14 of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City were arrested, according to District Police Office Dang.

According to police, Topli Sarki, of Ward No. 14 Lakhan Park in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City, sold a 20-year-old girl to a Kothi (sex shop) in Chandigarh, claiming that she would get a job and earn more money.

The victim discovered she had been sold when Sarki accepted the amount from the Kothi owner.

After 12 days of being sexually abused, the victim informed her mother on Feb 5.

After a complaint was received at the District Police Office Dang that the girl had been sold to India, the girl was rescued with the help of various organizations and the perpetrators were arrested on Feb 16.

According to the police, the arrested persons have been charged with offenses under the Human Trafficking and Trafficking Control Act, 2064, and further investigation is being conducted by the Dang Deukhuri District Court.
