KATHMANDU: MAY. 8 – A 390 candidates, including three rural municipality chairpersons, were elected unopposed in the local level election-2079 BS. On May 13, a local election will be held to elect 35,221 people’s representatives.

The Election Commission, on the other hand, has made public the details of 390 unopposed candidates, including the three chairpersons, based on their candidacies in the previous 11 and 12 elections. Nominations for the by-elections had been filed by 145,010 people.

According to the commission, 138 members of UML, 115 members of Congress, 59 members of UCPN-M, 35 members of UCPN-M, 2 members of NCP, 2 members of RPP, 1 member of JSP, 1 member of LSP, 1 member of Rastriya Janamukti Party, 1 member of CPN-Maoist and 35 independents have been elected unopposed.

There are 3 unopposed chairpersons, 4 vice-chairpersons, 48 ​​ward chairpersons, 164 Dalit women members, 71 women members and 100 open members in the municipality. According to the commission, Angad Kumar Rana of UCPN (Maoist) has been elected as the chairperson of Kaike Rural Municipality of Dolpa, Senang Gurung of Samajwadi Party has been elected as the chairperson of Chharka Tangsong Rural Municipality and Dhawa Samduk Gurung of UML has been elected as the chairperson of She Phoksundo Rural Municipality.

Similarly, UML’s Mengmar Phuncho Lama has been elected as the vice-chairperson of Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality of Manang, Nima Budha of Nepali Congress as the vice-chairperson of Kaike Rural Municipality of Dolpa, Karma Dhundap Gurung as the vice-chairperson of Chharka Tangsong Rural Municipality and Pemma Dhorche Gurung of Samajwadi as the vice-chairperson of Dolpo Buddha.
