KATHMANDU: Bayern Munich pulled off a resilient 2–1 victory over defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, despite being reduced to 10 men before half-time.

Luis Díaz was the hero for Bayern, scoring both goals within the opening 30 minutes.

He gave Bayern the lead in the 4th minute and doubled it in the 30th minute after capitalizing on a defensive error from PSG.

However, Bayern suffered a setback late in the first half when Díaz was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Achraf Hakimi.

The PSG full-back left the field in tears after sustaining an injury.

PSG increased the pressure in the second half and pulled a goal back through João Neves in the 74th minute. But Bayern’s solid defensive structure ensured they held on to secure all three points.

This victory marks Bayern’s 16th consecutive win in all competitions.

The German champions have now won all four of their group matches, collecting 12 points.

“We haven’t won anything yet, but this was an important step towards the next round,” Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said after the match.

For Paris Saint-Germain, concerns are growing over injuries.

Hakimi’s condition remains uncertain, raising doubts about his availability for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé also left the pitch early due to a hamstring issue.

“We are working to improve the players’ physical condition, but with so many matches, it’s not easy,” PSG coach Luis Enrique commented.
