KATHMANDU: A tense situation unfolded in the Duduwa Rural Municipality of Banke District after an 18-year-old girl climbed a mobile communication tower and demanded that her boyfriend be called to the scene before she would come down, local authorities said.

The incident occurred in Jafarpurwa area of Ward No. 2 of Duduwa Rural Municipality, where the teenager reportedly climbed the tall tower early in the day, causing alarm among residents and her family.

According to locals, she insisted she would not descend until her boyfriend was brought to the site.

Despite repeated attempts by family members and community residents to persuade her, she remained on the structure for hours, creating a tense atmosphere in the area.

“We tried to convince her to come down, but she refused. The situation became difficult, so we informed the police,” said local resident Rakesh Sharma.

Police teams were later deployed to the scene and, after sustained negotiation, managed to safely bring her down. She was immediately taken to a hospital for medical evaluation, officials confirmed.

“We rescued her after local requests. She has been sent for treatment,” said Jeevraj Thapa, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Banke. “She had insisted on meeting her boyfriend before coming down.”

Authorities have not disclosed further details about her condition but said she is under medical care and observation.
