KATHMANDU: Campion College, Kupandole, Lalitpur, made history on Sunday by hosting the 1st National Champion Conference on Digital Transformation: Strategy, Governance, Leadership, and Innovation, a landmark academic gathering that brought together over 100 participants from across Nepal’s higher education institutions to deliberate on the pressing challenges and opportunities of digital transformation in the national context.
The conference, held at the college premises in Kupandole, Lalitpur, witnessed the participation of faculty members, MPhil scholars, and students from Campion College, Mid-Valley College, IIMS College, People’s Campus, and Tribhuvan University, reflecting a broad and inclusive academic representation.

An Auspicious Beginning
The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Conference Chair, Mrs. Anamika Shrivastava, who set the tone for the day by underscoring the importance of grounding Nepal’s digital transformation agenda in rigorous academic inquiry and evidence-based policy thinking.
This was followed by the Keynote Address delivered by Dr. Mahashram Sharma, Chairman of the College Management Committee, who elaborated on the strategic imperatives of digital transformation for institutions of higher learning and broader national development. His remarks drew on the evolving global landscape of technology governance and called upon Nepal’s academic community to take an active role in shaping the country’s digital trajectory.

The Special Guests then addressed the gathering in turn. Mr. Parshu Ram Pokhrel, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, brought a policy perspective, touching on the governance dimensions of digital reform within Nepal’s public administration. Prof. Dr. Arjun Kumar Baral, Executive Director of the Centre for Economic Development and Administration (CEDA), Tribhuvan University, offered insights into the economic underpinnings of digital strategy, while Prof. Dr. Achyut Gyawali of the Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University, spoke on the leadership competencies required to navigate complex technological transitions within organisations.

The formal inaugural session was brought to a close by the address of the Chief Guest, Mr. Chiri Babu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City. Mayor Maharjan spoke to the role of local governments in driving digital service delivery and e-governance at the grassroots level, emphasising that digital transformation must be felt by ordinary citizens, not merely discussed in conference halls.
Into the Sessions
Before the commencement of the first research session, Mr. Medan Gauli addressed the participants, setting the academic tone and helping orient the audience toward the scholarly deliberations ahead.
Session One comprised four papers and was chaired by Dr. Binod Ghimire, whose facilitation ensured rigorous academic exchange among presenters and participants. Dr. Hari Prashad Joshi served as the session’s commentator, offering incisive and constructive feedback on each paper presented, helping authors refine their arguments and situate their findings within the broader discourse of digital transformation.

Prior to the second session, Dr. Padam Dongol, Conference Coordinator, addressed the gathering, providing context and a bridge between the two bodies of research to be presented.
Session Two, featuring five papers, was chaired by Dr. Naresh Rimal. The session benefited from the insights of two commentators, Dr. Dilli Ram Adhikari and Dr. Keshav Raj Panthee, whose complementary perspectives brought a multi-dimensional critique to the research presented, sparking lively discussion among attendees.

The papers collectively spanned themes central to the conference’s mandate, encompassing digital strategy formulation, governance frameworks, institutional leadership in the digital age, and technological innovation, topics that are rapidly gaining urgency within Nepal’s evolving socioeconomic landscape.
Synthesising the Day’s Learning
As the academic sessions concluded, Dr. Hari Prashad Joshi delivered a comprehensive summarisation of the entire conference, weaving together the key findings, debates, and recommendations that had emerged across both sessions. His synthesis offered participants a coherent and consolidated picture of the day’s intellectual output.

Closing remarks were then delivered by Dr. Keshav Raj Panthee, who commended the quality of research presented and called upon Nepal’s academic institutions to sustain and deepen engagement with digital transformation as a field of scholarly inquiry. He expressed optimism that the conference would serve as a foundation for future collaboration and policy dialogue.
The conference concluded with the Vote of Thanks extended by Dr. Peter Lepcha, Cluster Operational Head of CG Education, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, keynote speaker, special guests, session chairs, commentators, presenters, and participants for making the inaugural edition of the conference a resounding success.
A Milestone for Nepali Academia
The 1st National Champion Conference on Digital Transformation marks a significant milestone for Campion College and for Nepal’s academic community at large.

By convening researchers, policymakers, educators, and students under a single roof to examine one of the defining challenges of our time, the conference has demonstrated that Nepal’s higher education institutions are ready and willing to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s digital future.

With nine research papers presented, fifteen researchers at the podium, and over one hundred minds engaged in dialogue, the conference has laid a strong foundation, and the expectation now is that it will return with even greater scope and impact in the years to come.
