KATHMANDU: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has nominated Han Seong-suk as the country’s new Prime Minister on Sunday, the presidential office announced in an official statement.
Han, a former Chief Executive Officer of the leading internet company Naver, is currently serving in Lee’s administration as Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups.
She is widely recognized for her extensive experience in the technology sector and her expertise in digital innovation.
If approved by parliament, Han would become the first woman in over two decades to assume the role of Prime Minister in South Korea.
The last female Prime Minister, Han Myeong-sook, served from 2006 to 2007.
