KATHMANDU: Nepal were set a target of 171 runs by Scotland in their final group-stage match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After winning the toss, Nepal opted to field first. Scotland posted a competitive total of 170 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Scotland’s innings was built around a fluent half-century by opener Michael Jones, who provided early momentum with aggressive stroke play.

Scotland made a strong start, adding 80 runs for the first wicket.

The partnership was broken when Nepal’s captain dismissed the opening batter in the final ball of the 10th over.

Jones continued his attacking display, completing his half-century in just 31 balls, striking six fours and two sixes.

He later shared a crucial 52-run stand for the second wicket, further putting pressure on the Nepalese bowlers.

His innings came to an end in the 16th over after a well-directed delivery ended his impressive knock of 71 runs from 45 balls, which included eight boundaries and three sixes.

Scotland looked set for a big total, but Nepal staged an excellent comeback in the final phase of the innings.

The Nepalese bowlers picked up six wickets in the last five overs while conceding only 39 runs, applying sustained pressure at the death.

Several sharp breakthroughs in the final overs restricted Scotland from accelerating fully.

Late strikes ensured Scotland were contained to 170 for 7, despite a six being hit off the final ball of the innings.

In the bowling department, Nepal’s pace attack led the fightback.

One bowler claimed three wickets for just 25 runs in four overs, while another supported him with two wickets, conceding 34 runs from four overs.

The captain and one opening batter also chipped in with a wicket each. Nepal’s lead spinner, however, remained wicketless, conceding 29 runs from three overs.

Nepal made one change to their playing XI for this match.

Despite both teams already being eliminated from the tournament after losing their previous three matches in Group C, the contest was played with pride and competitive intensity, with both sides aiming to end their campaigns on a positive note.
