KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to elect its new leadership through a competitive election after party President Rabi Lamichhane made it clear that the leadership would not be selected through consensus.

Addressing the closed session of the party’s first General Convention on Tuesday, Lamichhane said he did not want a consensus process that could be perceived as favoring some colleagues over others.

Instead, he called for a healthy and democratic contest.

He urged party members to avoid factionalism and internal groupings, stressing that the election should be conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

Lamichhane also requested leaders and delegates not to lobby through phone calls or engage in bloc politics, emphasizing unity and healthy competition within the party.

The RSP leadership election is now certain to take place, with party members set to choose their new leadership through voting.
