RSP convention: Upendra calls for constitutional amendment for inclusion & justice
Yadav said the country is still searching for good governance, social justice, equality and real prosperity even after major political changes.
KATHMANDU: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav has said that Nepal’s Constitution still contains “errors, contradictions and incompleteness” that must be corrected through amendment to make it more inclusive, just and prosperous.
Addressing the inaugural session of the first national convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Bharatpur, Chitwan, Yadav said the country is still searching for good governance, social justice, equality and real prosperity even after major political changes.
He noted that the Constitution issued through the Constituent Assembly had successfully institutionalized federalism, republicanism, inclusiveness and secularism, but said these achievements have not been fully implemented in practice.
“There are contradictions, flaws and incompleteness within the Constitution itself,” Yadav said, adding that marginalized communities, ethnic groups and cultural groups are still struggling to secure equal rights and recognition.
“The Constitution issued by the Constituent Assembly is flawed, incomplete and insufficient,” he said. “Even though it includes federalism, republicanism, inclusiveness and secularism, many provisions remain unfulfilled. The current need is to amend and refine the Constitution to remove distortions and make it more progressive.”
He further stated that strengthening inclusive democracy should be a shared national responsibility and urged the RSP to play an active role in driving political transformation and national prosperity.
Yadav also extended his best wishes for the success of the RSP convention, currently underway in Bharatpur.
