RSP convention begins
A total of 4,211 delegates have been selected for the three-day gathering.
KATHMANDU: The first National Convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) officially began in Bharatpur, Chitwan, on Sunday in accordance with the party’s pre-announced schedule.
The convention is being held at the Guest House grounds in Bharatpur, with party President Rabi Lamichhane and Prime Minister and senior party leader Balen Shah attending the opening ceremony.
Senior RSP office-bearers, central leaders and convention delegates are also participating in the event.
Leaders from major political parties have joined the inauguration ceremony, including Nepali Congress leader Gagan Kumar Thapa, CPN-UML leader Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Barshaman Pun and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chair Rajendra Lingden.
Also present at the ceremony are former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Janata Samajbadi Party Chair Upendra Yadav and Janamat Party Chairman Chandra Kanta Raut, among other political leaders.
According to the party, a total of 4,211 delegates are expected to take part in the convention, the first national gathering of its kind since the party’s establishment.
The opening ceremony has also drawn a large number of RSP district-level leaders, cadres and supporters from Chitwan and neighboring districts.
As part of the inauguration, Lamichhane and Shah & other leaders, jointly opened the convention by ringing the party’s iconic bell symbol.
