KATHMANDU: Rain could cast a shadow over the much-anticipated India–Pakistan Group A showdown on Sunday, Feb 15, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo at 7:00 PM local time.

Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, through its Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, has indicated that a low-pressure system is likely to develop over the southeastern Bay of Bengal around the same time.

The warning has raised fears of possible interruptions—or even a washout—of one of the marquee fixtures of the T20 World Cup, prompting teams and fans to keep a close eye on weather updates.

“A low-pressure area is likely to form over south-eastern Bay of Bengal around Feb 15,” the department said in a statement.

AccuWeather Forecast

According to AccuWeather, brief showers are possible around 5 PM local time, roughly two hours before the scheduled start.

However, rain during the match itself appears unlikely.

Conditions are expected to remain cloudy, with temperatures hovering around 27°C and humidity levels in the 70 percent range.

India, Pakistan Aim to Extend Winning Runs

Both India and Pakistan head into the contest unbeaten and determined to preserve their strong starts.

India opened their campaign with a tense victory over the United States, powered by a crucial knock from Suryakumar Yadav.

They then registered their biggest T20 World Cup win, thrashing Namibia by 93 runs in Delhi.

Pakistan, on the other hand, narrowly escaped an upset against the Netherlands in their first match before bouncing back emphatically with a comfortable win over the United States to secure consecutive victories.

Historically, India have dominated this rivalry in T20 World Cups, winning seven of their eight encounters.

Pakistan’s sole victory came in the 2021 edition at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

With Super 8 qualification at stake, Sunday’s clash carries added significance.

India will seek to tighten their psychological grip on the rivalry, while Pakistan aim to shift the momentum and script a new chapter in this storied contest.
