MP Kerung slams govt over border, governance & farmer issues
He also pointed to the failure of a recently held all-party meeting—organized following a ruling party leader’s visit to India—as a reason for the continued parliamentary deadlock.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress MP Narendra Kerung has accused the government of failing to address key national concerns, including sovereignty, border security, and citizens’ livelihoods, amid ongoing disruptions in the House of Representatives.
Speaking to reporters after another session of the House of Representatives was obstructed following a five-day adjournment, Narendra Kerung said the government has not been able to provide satisfactory responses on issues of national importance, particularly border-related concerns and security matters.
He stressed that national integrity and sovereignty are more important than the budget process, adding that protests would continue unless the Prime Minister or relevant authorities provide clear and convincing answers on border security issues.
He also pointed to the failure of a recently held all-party meeting—organized following a ruling party leader’s visit to India—as a reason for the continued parliamentary deadlock.
Kerung further argued that the government must act as a representative of all citizens rather than serving a single political party, emphasizing accountability and responsiveness to public concerns.
Strongly condemning the reported destruction of students’ mobile phones, he described the act as the “height of irrationality.” He said it was unjust to destroy property purchased by parents through hard-earned money and demanded immediate compensation for the affected students.
Raising another concern, the MP highlighted the growing “monkey menace” across the country, which he said has severely affected farmers and contributed to migration from hill regions.
He urged the government to formulate science-based, environmentally friendly policies in consultation with wildlife experts to effectively manage the issue.
