KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has emphasized the need for a policy of rapid economic development to tackle Nepal’s pressing economic and social issues.

Speaking at the 12th Representatives Council Meeting of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) today, Pokhrel stated that a well-planned approach to economic growth is essential to overcome the nation’s socioeconomic challenges.

He highlighted a growing disparity between the country’s economic progress and its social development in recent years, underlining the need for strategic reforms.

Pokhrel also stressed the importance of building a strong and capable workforce to strengthen the nation.

Defending his party’s recent decisions, the UML leader backed the removal of the 70-year age limit and the two-term provision for party leadership roles, describing them as necessary steps.

Additionally, he remarked that former President Bidya Devi Bhandari should maintain a dignified role rather than returning to active politics.
